Providence Health & Services Medical Lab Tech - Valdez in Valdez, Alaska
Providence is calling a Medical Lab Tech (Laboratory, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Valdez Medical Center in Valdez, Alaska. In this position you will:
Collect blood via venous, and capillary routes according to established procedures.
Receive various body fluids and material collected by the medical and nursing staffs, evaluates the condition of these specimens, and processes them according to established procedures.
Perform various analyses in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and blood banking.
Organize a variety of work to ensure rapid testing of high priority work and completion of all work within acceptable time frame.
Document patient results on appropriate log and/or report form.
Question unusual or "panic value" results and take appropriate action to confirm result.
Transmit results promptly to nursing personnel and/or medical staff.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Associate's degree sufficient for registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician or with equivalent education/work experience
License and certifications can be acquired within the first year of hire date
1 year of experience to enable the employee to work effectively in commonplace work situations and to provide working knowledge of the principles, practices, standards, methods and techniques of the pathology field
About the Providence Valdez Medical Center
Providence Valdez Medical Center is a 21 bed Critical Access Hospital and we employ about 100 people (87 FTE’s). Of those 21 beds, 10 are licensed Long Term Care beds and 11 are Acute/Swing Beds. We have four physicians on our active medical staff who practice out of the Valdez Medical Clinic. Our average daily census is three-four inpatients and 20-30 outpatients. Our facility contains an emergency room, labor room, post-partum, nursery, cardiac room, orthopedic, and med/surg rooms. We also have an operating room for emergency surgeries and elective procedures, C-sections, hernias and appendectomies. All our beds are licensed for “swing bed” status of which 1-3 are usually occupied.
