Providence Health & Services Patient Care Technician in Valdez, Alaska
Providence is calling a Patient Care Technician (Medical Surgical, Variables, 0.0 FTE) to Providence Valdez Medical Center in Valdez, Alaska. In this position you will:
Demonstrate understanding of and provides care according to Standards of Practice and the patient’s Nursing Care Plan. These duties are under the supervision of the Primary Caregiver and/or Professional Associate. Performs duties to assist in activities of daily living such as bathing, ambulating, and nourishment
Record vital signs, I&O, weights, ADLs, meal intake, and other required documentation in an accurate, concise, and timely manner
Report changes in patient condition, problematic and unusual circumstances to Primary Caregiver and Professional Associates. Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and co-workers
Communicate effectively with the RN or other caregivers regarding patient issues, family issues, MD issues, and equipment. Communicate in a compassionate manner to patients, families, and visitors
Assist in the patient admitting, transfer, and discharge procedure. Transport patients via wheelchair and stretcher
Check and restock supplies and emergency equipment and replaces as instructed. Maintain and operate multiple pieces of equipment in a safe and effective manner to improve patient care
Implement care/services that recognize age/diversity specific needs/issues of customers served
Support and assist with orientation and/or preceptorship of new staff and/or students
Complete Competency Plan for assigned job and department
Required qualifications for this position include:
- High School graduate or General Equivalency Degree (GED)
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Completed training as a Certified Nursing Assistant or any equivalent Combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience
Completion of CNA program or 6 months of health care experience
About the Providence Valdez Medical Center
Providence Valdez Medical Center is a 21 bed Critical Access Hospital and we employ about 100 people (87 FTE’s). Of those 21 beds, 10 are licensed Long Term Care beds and 11 are Acute/Swing Beds. We have four physicians on our active medical staff who practice out of the Valdez Medical Clinic. Our average daily census is three-four inpatients and 20-30 outpatients. Our facility contains an emergency room, labor room, post-partum, nursery, cardiac room, orthopedic, and med/surg rooms. We also have an operating room for emergency surgeries and elective procedures, C-sections, hernias and appendectomies. All our beds are licensed for “swing bed” status of which 1-3 are usually occupied.
