Providence Radiology - CT Technologist in Valdez, Alaska


Providence is calling a Radiology - CT Technologist (General Radiology, Day Shift, 0.0 FTE) to Providence Valdez Medical Center in Valdez, Alaska. In this position you will:

  • Participate in organizing the activities of the Radiology department. This includes establishing, updating and following policies and procedures in accordance with hospital policies, standard practices of the profession, and related state and federal laws. Develop and participates in the budgeting process. Follow process for major or minor expenditures.

  • This position must have a working knowledge in all phases of Radiology including general radiology, CT, trauma, Dexa Scan and contrast procedures. Must be able to work with and cooperate with the physicians, nursing staff, and the other departments within the hospital, to facilitate smoothly coordinated patient and resident care services. Must review procedure orders and perform radiologic examinations. Communicate and works with the radiologists to maintain a timely flow of patient reports. Digitally transmit clinical images according to policy and procedure. Respond to emergent situations according to medical center procedures and protocols.

  • This position must have a working knowledge in all phases of Computerized Tomography. Independently performs CT exams.

  • Assist the physicians with the Ultrasound exams as necessary. Ensure proper use of machine and maintains cleanliness. Coordinate appointments and communicates with Valdez Medical Clinic, patients and business office as needed.

  • Must be able to identify and respond to acute care complications as necessary. Respond to emergent situations according to medical center procedures and protocols.

  • Responsible for accurately completing and utilizing the Electronic Medical Record System, (EPIC and the Radiant module) and monitor flow of patient records as necessary.

  • Calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot equipment. Ensure that the department is properly stocked and supplied according to policy and procedure.

  • Perform safety and Quality Assurance/ Quality Control compilation and summarization on a daily, monthly and quarterly basis, as required.

  • Follow PVMC's procedures and attending in-services that are federal and state requirements. Continuing education and certifications are obtained to maintain licensure or certification. Actively participate in expansion and development of the department.

  • Make decisions independently and assumes responsibility for the Radiology department. Is capable and willing to perform emergency exams during nights and weekend hours, returns promptly to the hospital within required time to the hospital when on-call.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Graduate from an accredited Radiology Technologist program

  • Active registered CT certification through AART

  • Active registered member of the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT), designated as a Registered Technologist (R.T.) required

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire

  • 2 years experience as a Radiology Technologist

  • Irregular hours and days of work, on-call time required

  • Knowledge and demonstrate proficiency of the ALARA principles

About the Providence Valdez Medical Center

Providence Valdez Medical Center is a 21 bed Critical Access Hospital and we employ about 100 people (87 FTE’s). Of those 21 beds, 10 are licensed Long Term Care beds and 11 are Acute/Swing Beds. We have four physicians on our active medical staff who practice out of the Valdez Medical Clinic. Our average daily census is three-four inpatients and 20-30 outpatients. Our facility contains an emergency room, labor room, post-partum, nursery, cardiac room, orthopedic, and med/surg rooms. We also have an operating room for emergency surgeries and elective procedures, C-sections, hernias and appendectomies. All our beds are licensed for “swing bed” status of which 1-3 are usually occupied.
